Getting your Wallet and your Waist back in Shape!

Monday March 26, 2012
We’re now three months into 2012 (how time flies!) and hopefully you have at least one foot on the path to achieving those well-intentioned New Year’s Resolutions. Getting fit and losing weight tend to feature as top priorities following the festive season, with waistlines as large as our Christmas credit card bills. However, hiring a personal trainer, paying gym membership and spending countless dollars on the latest exercise outfits can be very expensive. So have you stuck with your resolution? Or did the fitness kick see less of 2012 than the Christmas tree?
Well, if your motivation is waning and you’re hiding behind financial excuses, Gumtree has a few tips to help you get your fitness and health resolutions back on track.
Kitting yourself out
According to research by Gumtree Australia, almost 6 million fitness related searches were recorded for 2011. An 86 per cent search increase from 2010 for sport, fitness and gym products.
In real terms, this means there is quality, affordable exercise equipment just a few clicks away. While a rowing machine costs on average over $1500 when buying direct from high street retailers, the same second-hand product is currently selling for as little as $20 online.
Getting motivated
You’ve got the gear, but still needing a little extra encouragement to get you out for that morning run? Well, 2011 also saw an increase in personal training advertisements. With a wide range of trainers on the Gumtree website, you’ll be able to find the trainer and programme to suit your individual needs.
A little help from my friends
To battle flailing motivation as we begin to head into the colder months, Gumtree also recommends exercising with a group who will motivate you to get up when you’d rather stay in bed, encourage you to push yourself physically and mentally, and who will provide a fun social atmosphere in which to exercise.
